De Freitas Atelier is a research project on ethereal ways of inhabiting the world and the memory we leave imprinted on things.

Founded in 2025 in Barcelona, De Freitas Atelier is an independent studio focused on handmade knitwear and material experimentation, run by artist and designer Susana F. De Freitas. 

All materials are sourced from local suppliers in Barcelona and Berlin, the two cities where much of the studio’s work and research unfolds. To avoid mass production and outsourcing, every piece is shaped, sewn, and finished with care, emerging in limited quantities.

Collections are released in small numbers, and we do small alterations so each piece remains one of a kind. In doing so, the studio aligns with ongoing movements that challenge the pace of fast fashion, instead committing to thoughtful and creative expression, and a more deliberate way of making.

A central element of the practice is embracing a slow rhythm that honours time, invites intention, and treats imperfection as an essential quality which becomes visible in the way the pieces exist in dialogue with one another.
